The countdown is at eight. To be more precise, eight days until the official start of the 2021 football season in Kentucky. That’s a sweet number for players, coaches and fans around Kentucky, where the campaign kicks off on Aug. 20. But there are plenty of other numbers to keep an eye on as the season approaches. Here’s a look at what’s going on around the state — particularly in Northern Kentucky — when it comes to the numbers game for 2021.

With the exception of holidays, who really pays attention to a calendar? One local family definitely has an important date circled on the calendar each year. It’s the Schloemer family, one of the most iconic names in Northern Kentucky prep basketball history. That date is Jan. 7. For brothers Doug and Mark Schloemer, what happened exactly 47 years ago tonight is more than a date on the calendar.
